The app uses SMSLib, an open source library, to access your device's motion sensors.

Run SeisMaCalibrate at least once to get the best results from SeisMac. You have to carry out a series of basic movements with your laptop to get its sensors perfectly adjusted.
The graphs included in the program will help you understand where you should place your laptop at any given time.
After calibration, the values on the X and Y axes should be close to zero and that of the Z axis close to one.
